Artist’s Profile
I was born in New York City in 1943 where my studies included courses at the Arts Students League. In Montreal, formal courses in stone, bronze, and ceramic sculpture as well as painting and drawing were pursued for 15 years at the Sadye Bronfman Centre and the Institut des Beaux Arts. My current desire is to express my creativity exclusively through oil, watercolour and mixed media on canvas, paper and wood.
When a canvas is started, there is no preconceived result. The very work fills me with a passion and a compulsion that drive it to a final vision. You, the viewer, should have your own interpretation of each work. We (the viewer and I) are connected simply by questioning my message and vision. My art is on a spiritual quest driven by a need to balance my world even if it is, at times, difficult to reconcile opposites. The dichotomy of joy and pain will be expressed by the hardness or softness of the lines and images, together with the thickness or thinness of the paint.
In my future evolution as an artist, I am hoping to find balance between spontaneous expression and careful decisions in order to create work which is complete in texture, colour and balance. Most importantly, it will be an emotional expression from deep within me. The road ahead will follow an exciting path and be fuelled by a continuing passion to explore and create.
In May 2001, Mr Robert Boghner purchased a painting of mine for his private collection. Mr Boghner, as C.E.O, was in the process of planning the construction of an exclusive resort, The Borgata, in Atlantic City. My work was chosen by a professional art panel to be the comerstone of the hotel’s permanent collection with 50 of my painting to be permanently displayed throughout the hotel lobbies.
This whimsical series fills me with a great sense of accomplishment and joy and it is an honour to share this privilege with my friends and colleagues.
